Cospicua — known locally as Bormla — is the largest of Malta’s Three Cities and one of the most historically significant areas on the island. Unlike the busier tourist zones of Valletta, Sliema, or St. Julian’s, the Three Cities offer an authentic, unhurried experience of Maltese life, surrounded by some of the most impressive fortifications in the Mediterranean.
The Three Cities — Birgu, Senglea & Cospicua
The property sits at the heart of the Cottonera area, giving guests immediate walking access to all three cities. Birgu’s waterfront is lined with excellent restaurants and bars overlooking the marina and is one of the most atmospheric dining areas in Malta. Senglea’s Gardjola Gardens offer some of the most dramatic views of the Grand Harbour. The historic fortifications, narrow limestone streets, colourful balconies, and baroque churches throughout the area make it a genuinely unique place to stay.
The Ferry to Valletta
One of the property’s strongest assets is its proximity to the Three Cities Ferry. A short walk brings guests to the ferry point, from which a 15-minute crossing delivers them directly to Valletta’s waterfront at Lascaris Wharf. It is one of the most practical and scenic commutes on the island.
American University of Malta
The university campus, housed in two beautifully restored historic dockyard buildings on the Cospicua waterfront, is within easy walking distance. The surrounding waterfront area has a number of bars and restaurants and is a pleasant place to walk in the evening.
Bir Mula Heritage Museum
A short walk from the property, this independent social history museum is one of Cospicua’s most interesting cultural attractions, tracing the evolution of Maltese domestic life over three thousand years.
Food & Drink
Birgu’s waterfront restaurants are within walking distance and offer some of the best harbour-view dining in Malta. Maltese, Mediterranean, and seafood options are well represented. The area is quieter and less commercialised than Sliema or Paceville, which many guests find preferable.
Parking
Street parking is available in the area. Guests arriving by car are advised to check the specific parking guidance included in the arrival instructions sent prior to check-in.
Cospicua is centrally located in Malta’s historic south and offers easy access to both the capital and the wider island.
