Our property sits in the upper residential part of Mellieħa, one of Malta’s most popular villages in the north of the island. It is a genuinely walkable location — the main street, parish church square, supermarkets, pharmacies, and a good selection of restaurants and cafés are all within a 5-minute walk.

Village Centre & Daily Life

Triq il-Kbira, Mellieħa’s main street, is a few minutes’ walk from the property and has everything needed for a comfortable stay — bakeries, a pharmacy, minimarkets, and a Green Valley supermarket nearby on Triq il-Fortizza itself. The village has a relaxed, authentic Maltese character with far less tourist intensity than St. Julian’s or Sliema.

Parish Church & Square

The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary dominates the upper village and is one of Malta’s most impressive parish churches. The square in front of it is a natural gathering point and one of the best sunset viewpoints in the north of the island, with open views down toward Għadira Bay and across to Gozo on clear days.

Restaurants & Bars

The main street and church square area are lined with restaurants covering everything from traditional Maltese cooking to Italian, seafood, and international cuisine. Da Ciccio Cucina, Westreme, and The Cave Bar are all within easy walking distance for dinner or drinks.

Beaches

Għadira Bay — Malta’s largest sandy beach — is a 15-minute walk downhill or a 5-minute drive. The bay has sun lounger hire, water sports operators, and several restaurants directly on the seafront. Armier Bay and Little Armier, quieter spots, are a short drive further north.

Hiking & Nature

The elevated position of Mellieħa village gives direct access to walking trails toward the coastal ridge and Ras il-Qammieħ, with views over Comino and Gozo. The Foresta 2000 nature reserve is a short drive away

.

Popeye Village

The original set of the 1980 film, now a family leisure attraction, is less than 3km from the property along the coastal road toward Anchor Bay.

Gozo Day Trips

The Ċirkewwa ferry to Gozo is 10 minutes by car — one of the most popular day trips from Mellieħa and easily done without a guided tour.

Parking

Street parking is available on and around Triq il-Fortizza. No permits required.

Valletta (Capital City) — approx. 45 min by car / 75 min by bus

Bus routes 41, 42, 49, or 222 depart from the village centre stops, a short walk from the property, and run directly to Valletta. By car, head south through Mosta and follow signs to Valletta. Parking is available at the Park & Ride in Floriana.

Mdina & Rabat — approx. 35 min by car

Head south toward Mosta, then follow signs to Mdina. No direct bus from Mellieħa — change at Valletta or use Bolt. Best visited by car or as part of a day trip.

Sliema — approx. 40 min by car / 75 min by bus

Head south along the main road toward St. Julian’s and continue along the coast to Sliema. By bus, take routes 41 or 42 toward Valletta and connect to Sliema from there.
